We started it off right, with a fresh pain au chocolat from a boulangerie and a coffee in a cafe! We visited Saint-Laurent Church.
Gaze upon the painted tympanum |
It felt like a hidden gem, not too touristy.
St. Denis! The figure is called a cephalophore. Medieval artists could never agree on where to put the halo, head or neck-stump? |
When we were getting ready to leave, Katie noticed that her camera was gone! We searched everywhere for it. Luckily, this very nice French gentleman had found it and was going to drop it off at the parish office. Katie was able to talk to him and get it back.
We continued on and had a bit of lunch. Our overarching plan was to "Keep it organic", just enjoy our experiences in City of Lights and not really try to stick to a schedule.
I really liked this building |
This course of action allowed us to find a fashion show on the streets.
Me and my new friend |

Perhaps the highlight of the day was going to Sainte Chapelle.
I had learned a little about Sainte Chapelle in 9th grade. What I distinctly recall were that it had some phenomenal stained glass. And Sainte Chapelle did not disappoint.
They were finishing up restoring the stained glass, so that's why there are some white curtained-off areas. It was breath-taking, nonetheless.
We later went to Notre Dame and just hung out on the steps.
Thanks to the random Midwest couple who took the picture! |
We went back to the hostel and I took a nap. That was a lot of walking! That evening, Katie and I went out to a pizza place. We tried a pizza with perhaps the strangest combination of ingredients (potato, onion, ham, cheese, and a créme fraîche base). We both ended up liking it though. We went to a bar/cafe afterwards and got some drinks. I stuck with Kir, Katie got a Heineken. I also saved room for a chocolat viennois.
That concluded my second day in Paris. Stay tuned for the third installment.
